Type: Limited Access Extranet / Document Management System
Project: Bechtel's Telecommunications business unit relies on a sophisticated document management system to provide workflow controlled content to its staff. While the tool was accessible to local employees via LAN line, Bechtel sought to create a Web interface which would allow off-site users around the globe to remotely access the document management system for purpose of tranfering large files and information sets.
As lead Information Architect, my deliverables included:
- User group definitions and workflow premission assignment for those groups to provide differing levels of security, access to content, and management privileges
- Detailed written functional specification which served to define and explain all areas of the front-end interface functionality
- Userflow maps dictating user interaction with the system necessary to complete various functional tasks based on estabilished permissions
- A flexible template design that allowed fucntionality on individual pages to be dynamically constructed using Java Object code for timely download, and intuitive navigational prompts and instruction intended to walk the user through complicated functional tasks
- Administration tools design allowing complete control to all aspect of the Web interface
- Written copy for the "Help" and technical areas of the tool
- Direction to technical and creative staff on the build and design aspects of the site to make sure they were implemented correctly
