Sony Style: Electronics

Type: Ecommerce Consumer Website

Project: Prior to our engagement, the majority of Sony's online presence was fragmented across inconsistently branded mini-sites. Customers were finding themselves lost in the navigation, causing them to abandon the site before reaching the point of sale. The Sony Style redesign was the first step in restructuring the corporate site under one intuitive sales umbrella.

As lead Information Architect in this project, my deliverables included:
  • A revised navigational structure, consisting of clearly phrased universal buttons and decreased number of "clicks" to detailed product information and purchase
  • Usability documentation detailing the advantages of scrolling pages and using DHTML navigational schemes
  • A functional specification document describing the recommended interaction between the design and backend
  • Redesigned templates incorporating universal navigation, improved product placement and "push" navigational features guiding users into specific product areas
  • Direction of internal and subcontracted technical and creative teams, with the assistance of the technical lead, on the implementation of the redesign
